Adhesion

Adhesion describes the molecular interaction between the phases getting into contact with each other, e.g. liquid and solids. That means that there are adhesion forces between the molecules of a container wall and the surface molecules of a liquid. Together with the cohesive forces a so called contact angle alpha is formed. Alpha < 90°: wetting liquid; alpha > 90° not wetting liquid. A solid is only wetted with liquid, if the adhesion forces are strong enough. This is important in granulation and coating processes which require sufficient adhesion and thus spreading of the liquid.

Adjustable Spray Angle

Usually two-fluid of three-fluid nozzles are used for granulation or coating processes. The spraying angle can be adjusted to a range of approx. 15-30° by determining the air quantity by the position of the air cap as well as the height of the spraying pressure.

Agglomeration

Fine particles coalesce to bigger agglomerates. In the pharmaceutical practice agglomeration is also called granulation. Various agglomeration procedures are known which are divided in wet or dry processes. DIOSNA offers plants for mixer granulation as well as fluid bed agglomeration (-granulation).

ATEX

The expression ATEX (French: Atmosphere Explosible) summarizes the European Guidelines for the explosion protection of machines and plants. DIOSNA machines and plants are generally designed on the basis of the respective rules and standards.

Automated Discharge

For automatic discharge the plant (mixer or fluid bed unit) is emptied automatically without manual handling of the product bowl. Usually the material is discharged through a discharging valve situated at the bowl and with help of a pneumatic conveying system sucking the product out of the plant.
