Tablet


Drug which is usually taken orally. To improve the stability and certain functional characteristics of the tablet, many tablets are coated with a film providing particular functional characteristics after tablet compression tablet coating.

Tablet Coating


Process to cover tablets with a layer. It is distinguished between film coating and sugar coating.

Tangential discharge


The fluid bed material bowl disposes of a lateral socket, usually with a pneumatically opened valve to discharge the product with help of pneumatic conveying (pneumatic discharge). A complete residual discharge is attained by an air distributor plate with tangential air outlet. With this bottom the product is centrifugally accelerated and though inevitably led to pass the discharge valve. The centrifugal acceleration of the product can also be deployed to peel sticking material from the bowl’s wall.

Tangential spray


Several nozzle sockets are provided in the material bowl for installation of spray nozzles. The spray nozzles (two component or three component nozzles) are used for granulation or coating of fine-grained product.

Three component nozzle


With a three component nozzle the atomisation air is supplemented by an enveloping air. The enveloping air has the purpose to avoid a too early contact of the product with the spray to achieve a more uniform coating result. Three component nozzles are particularly used for coating processes.

Through-The-Wall-Design


If plants are installed through the wall, a strict separation of production and technical area is realised. Each technical component, which is not directly necessary for production, is located in the technical zone behind the separating wall. This refers to all drives, air technique components, pneumatic aggregates, etc. Through-the-wall-Design allows for exceptionally GMP convenient design of the production equipment.

Top Drive


Mixer granulators can be equipped with a mixing tool, which is driven from above. The essential disadvantage is that the drive shaft is directly exposed to the product causing material sticking to it. Furthermore compared with a bottom drive (mixing tool driven from below) only a relatively big bottom gap is realisable, so that a complete discharge of the bowl after the process is hardly possible. The bowl and/or the lid with the tool and the chopper is vertically moveable. The connection pipes to the downstream dryer have to be disconnected when opening the machine.

Top Spray


Spray method where the spray strikes the product to be fluidising from the top in counter flow to the air direction.

Top Spray Granulator


Fluid bed plant for granulation of powdery substances in top spray process i.e. with a nozzle spraying from the top onto the product to be fluidised.

Total Containment System


Nearly complete embedding of an active substance in a production equipment so that the substance does not contaminate the production environment during production or handling. The distinction between high containment and total containment is the maximum admissible working environment threshold, which is usually <1µg/m³ with total containment. With high containment the threshold for the working environment lies between 5000µg/m³ - 1µg/m³.
